Weighted Sussex Hook. Maker: Herb A. Smith (England, mid-1970s)

This very large weighted hook (483mm tip-to-tip, 8mm thickness) is one of the demonstration models Smith brought to the 1976 Smithsonian Boomerang Workshop in Washington, D.C., as the featured guest of organizer Benjamin Ruhe. It can be seen held high in a George Leavens group image of the workshop attendees and, with a confirmed 55-60-meter range, may be the boomerang he used to throw around the Washington Monument in the early morning after the workshop.
